What does it Mean to Elope?

In the past, elopements were shrouded in an air of scandal. The term most often referred to running away to secretly get married to someone who wasn’t approved of by your family, or under socially unacceptable circumstances. But this outdated perception has been left behind; nowadays to elope simply means going away to have a small, intimate wedding, centred around the couple and their love.

This makes elopements more personal, romantic, and unique than traditional weddings as the day is free from rigid structure and convention. You can shape it with as much creativity as you wish! Elopements are not a big display or performance for the benefit of other people – they are a relaxed, low pressure and informal celebration of two people’s love. An elopement still involves getting legally married of course, but they often take place outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of nature.
